Chapter 3       

Winry sat down on the bed and yawned.

It had been a long day, and within 24 hours she and Edward had been mistaken for a couple twice.

It was a bit too much for her.  

'It's not that the idea of being Ed's lover bugs me or anything, actually...' she blushed at the sudden idea of being Edward's 'lover', thinking about what lovers usually do when they're together...

She blushed furiously.

'Winry Rockbell! You shouldn't even be thinking about certain things! Especially THOSE things! To him you're just a childhood friend; nothing more, nothing less!' this thought saddened her though.

'...'

'...yeah... he said so himself earlier today at that house we were checking out...' the young mechanic sighed 'But I said so too, and I didn't mean it at all... So is it possible, even vaguely, that he too-'

Her thoughts were interrupted by a sudden knocking from the door 'He couldn't possibly be back already, he just left barely fifteen minutes ago...' she opened the door.

In fact it wasn't Ed, it was the young black-haired man from earlier. Behind him there were other two men in green gilets carrying a big couch.

"Miss, we brought the couch... I'm still very sorry about this" he grinned, terribly embarrassed for what had happened.

"Oh don't worry about it, seriously, it's no big deal. Besides, it's not like it's the first time someone mistakes us for a couple; just this morning when we were looking for a new house to move in to, the owner thought we were engaged" Winry smiled trying to lighten up the youngster.

And he did light up, happy to know he wasn't the only one that messed up with these two. But he got curious.

"So you two are moving in together? How come if you're not mates?"

Winry wasn't expecting such questions.

But now that she thought about it, to anyone it would seem weird for a boy and a girl their age to live in the same house, if not for sentimental reasons that is.

It just seemed so normal to her to be with Edward all the time now, since he stopped travelling.

"Miss?"

The young lady didn't notice that she was spacing out in her thoughts, but she immediately snapped out of it when she heard something heavy fall: the other two workers had finished placing the couch.

"Oh, um... you see, me and him have grown up together, we've always been pretty close. When we were little we lost our parents and we got taken care of by my Grandmother. Later on he became a State Alchemist and left with his little brother for a long journey that went on for years..."

The man's eyes widened "St-state Alchemist... little brother... WAIT! Are you saying that he's Edward Elric?! The ex-FullMetal Alchemist, the child prodigy that saved all of Amestris risking his own life?!"

Winry knew that Ed was famous for what he did for the country, but this famous...

"Yep, that's him" she didn't give him any time to start rambling again "You see, he just came back a few months ago and started staying at mine and my Granny's place, but my Granny just passed away last week, so..." while remembering this she held the tears back and forced a smile "... so me and Ed decided to start over again"

"Oh, so that's why you're looking for a new place... I'm sorry about your Grandmother miss..." Winry was about to thank him but before she could even open her mouth... "But gee-wiz! The ex-FullMetal Alchemist here at Resembool's Inn! KYAAA! I can hardly believe it! You're so lucky to be a friend of his! Do you think he'd get mad if I asked for an autograph? Wow!..."

'What a fan-boy...' Winry sweat-dropped.

The guy just kept talking and talking and talking... the other two men had already left a while ago, abandoning Miss Rockbell to the 'Edo-kun Otaku'

"...ever since I've heard of him I've admired him so much! And-and... But wait, where is he?"

Winry snapped out of her mental sleep and her eyes widened and looked for a clock. She found one on the wall behind her near the window. When she read the time she gasped

'Gosh! He's already been out for more than an hour! What happened to him?!'

She immediately became worried sick, but decided to maintain her composure

"H-he just went out to get a few things, he should be back any minute... Why don't you got wait for him down at the reception?" Winry really hoped that this way the black-haired guy would go away.

"That sounds like a great idea!" he skipped away like a happy little fan-boy, ready to meet his idol.

Winry sighed '...finally...'

But she wasn't calm yet, Ed still hadn't come back. The yellow house on the hill was pretty far away, about a twenty-five minute walk to get there from the village, but he'd already been gone for more than an hour and a half

'Stay calm Winry, stay calm... he probably just took the long way, or just met some old friends from when we used to go to school... yeah, he's okay... there's nothing to worry about; he IS the ex-FullMetal Alchemist after all, right?'

She desperately tried to sooth herself, but it wasn't working... well, it was a little bit, until it started raining outside

'Oh great, now what? He's probably soaking wet right now! Poor Ed... I wonder where he is right now...'

About ten minutes later she heard knocking from the door again

'It better not be Mister fan-boy again...'

She opened the door and found Edward covered in mud and soaking wet

"ED! What happened to you!?"

He just grinned sheepishly "Sorry it took me so long, on the way back here I tripped and fell in to a fertilized field, so I had to go back up to the house and change myself and the clothes I was about to bring you"

"Then how come you're covered in mud?"

"Well, right around the outskirts of the village I met Benny, an old friend, I fixed his dad's farm when I first finished my training when I was younger, anyway, when it started raining I told him that I needed to hurry, but... you know how Benny is... as soon as I turned around he tripped me right in to a big puddle of mud and giggled..."

Winry raised an eyebrow and dryly said "You can't be serious."

"But I am..."

The two blonds just looked at each other, and thinking about what just happened they started laughing.

Winry was also laughing at herself for being so worried over nothing.

She should have known better than to worry over Edward of all people.
